3 Ways to Retain Top Talent

By admin | Be the Best Manager, Blog, Build Your Team | Comments are Closed | 6 March, 2019 | 0

Working circles around their coworkers and solving problems others can’t, your best employees are the backbone of your team.

It would be a major hit to the company if they ever decided to leave, so you need to do everything in your power to ensure their continued happiness. Follow these best practices to keep them firmly intact on your team.

    Display Gratitude

Certain employees always exceed your expectations, and this should be acknowledged. If you rarely remember to thank them or praise their outstanding work, they’ll start to feel taken for granted. Chances are, you do recognize and appreciate all they do, but don’t always articulate your gratitude. They’re pretty amazing, but top talent can’t read your mind. Make a point to offer regular and meaningful praise.

    Provide Room to Grow

Some people are content staying in the same job for years, but top talent doesn’t work that way. Skilled and ambitious, these people are going places. If you don’t have a path for them to grow, they’ll be forced to move on to another company. Do everything in your power to retain them, even if you have to create a new position for them. Incredibly talented employees don’t come along every day, so they’re well worth the extra effort.

    Compensate Them Fairly

Money isn’t the only thing that matters to top talent, but the size of their paycheck has a huge impact on their life. If you’re paying them a below-average salary, you’ll probably have trouble holding onto them long-term. Use salary comparison tools, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, to gauge average local salaries for your industry. If you’re truly unable to offer competitive pay, sweeten the deal with attractive perks —generous vacation time, a flexible schedule, and free snacks in the break room.
